Exciting day at StorSimple today

Today is an exciting day at StorSimple.  While we have been out of beta for some time, we saw our first unit roll off the production line end-to-end, ready to be shipped to a customer of ours.  Since opening the doors in June of 2009, fifteen months of hard work has culminated in bringing to market what I feel is a revolutionary product that allows companies to take advantage of cloud storage services TODAY without the complexity of integrating their applications into the cloud or the concerns over cloud performance and security.

Many times when we think of tech products we think of the really bright hardware and software engineers that spend countless hours focusing on each individual detail, and the product teams that craft the requirements, use cases, and guide the process along.  Having been through the exercise before reminds me of everything else that has to go into a product - what's included in the box?  What BIOS version will be installed?  How do we manage supply chain with our manufacturer(s)?  How do we handle stocking and sparing?  How are we going to support this thing in the wild?  What number will customers call if they have a problem?  What test cases do we need to test the system against?  How are we going to keep our staff caffeinated?  How are we going to reach our customers, and position ourselves so that they find us?  What tools are we going to use to track defects through the resolution process?  How will we sign up partners, and how will we empower them?

Seeing a box with pretty colors rolling off a production line, in and of itself, is not a big deal.  But thinking through everything that went into making this moment happen makes me thankful to be part of such an awesome team building a revolutionary product.

Congratulations to the ENTIRE team at StorSimple for reaching such an awesome milestone!
